INTRO
Inizialmente ero molto scettico, ma oramai mi sono abituato alla comodità delle cuffiette bluetooth “true wireless”, quindi ne ho provate parecchie. Pur essendo cuffiette di marche cinesi poco conosciute, si sentono abbastanza bene e spesso sono davvero ottime come rapporto qualità\prezzo. Queste sono le più costose che abbia mai acquistato, ma in generale per avere un buon prodotto per quanto riguarda le cuffiette true wireless sono sufficienti circa una trentina d’euro. SoundPEATS è una marca che non avevo mai sentito nominare, e dal nome decisamente criptico (SOUND sappiamo tutti cos’è ma PEATS è già più difficile da interpretare), in ogni caso, secondo il loro ABOUT US sul sito, pare producano cuffiette e prodotti audio wireless di vario genere dal 2010 specialmente per il mercato asiatico e americano, considerando quindi l’esperienza sul mercato non sorprende che queste Air3 siano un ottimo paio di cuffiette. Per il resto non riesco a trovare molte informazioni sul brand, sono misteriosi così come il loro nome.

TECNICA
Si tratta di un paio di cuffiette nello stile “true wireless”, inventato (o forse no) da Apple con le loro costosissime Airpods. Rispetto ad altri modelli più economici, queste oltre ai soliti trucchetti come APTx, microfoni secondari per la riduzione del rumore, e tante altre belle cose, offrono una modalità a bassa latenza per i giochi, il codec APTx Adaptive, controlli touch veri e il sensore per capire quando sono indossate e quando no.

Per quanto riguarda APTx, è necessario spiegare cos’è e quali dispositivi lo supportano. Si tratta di un codec proprietario di Qualcomm, che generalmente è disponibile sui cellulari con chipset di questo produttore, oppure fornito su licenza da Qualcomm al produttore del dispositivo. Se avete un Android con Chipset della Qualcomm, è del tutto probabile che alla connessione vedrete un popup con scritto “collegato un dispositivo che supporta Qualcomm APTx” o qualcosa del genere. Le cuffie ovviamente funzionano e si sentono benissimo anche su dispositivi che non supportano APTx, come computer Windows (infatti non preoccupatevi se non potrete selezionare da nessuna parte APTx o Bluetooth HD, Windows non supporta APTx), altri device che non supportano APTx è la robaccia di Apple, come gli iPhone, inclusi quelli nuovi.

Per tutti quelli che hanno dispositivi Qualcomm, SoundPEATS ha giustamente inserito una tabella comparativa nella descrizione delle cuffie, quindi non sto a ripeterla, in breve questa versione di APTx supporta il bitrate più alto possibile per la trasmissione audio bluetooth, non che si noti molto la differenza su delle cuffie così ma vabbè. Oltre a questo, non ho mai detto così tante volte APTx in vita mia, mi scuso per la ripetizione, ma era necessario.

La cosa più interessante di queste è la modalità “Game”, che diminuisce la latenza audio grazie a non si sa quale magheggio del chipset di cui sono dotate. E la differenza si sente! Al punto che le uso pure per giocare al PC, ovviamente la latenza non è zero come con delle cuffie cablate ma neanche mezzo secondo come sulle cuffie bluetooth “normali”. Quindi grazi e a queste bellissime cuffiette, quando non ho voglia di tenere su i miei cuffioni “da gaming” (le Beyerdynamic DT990) posso usare questi auricolari e far riposare un po’ le orecchie senza setire il suono in ritardo rispetto all’immagine. Questa caratteristica per me fa la differenza e le potrei consigliare senza riserve anche solo per questo. C’è anche da dire che non ho mai riscontrato disconnessioni o lag strani o impuntamenti, sono forse le più stabili che abbia mai avuto in fatto di connessione, sia da PC che da cellulare, anche in sessioni di gaming sul PC, suono perfetto dal momeno in cui le ho indossate al momento in cui si sono scaricate.

Infine, SoundPeats ha sviluppato un’app per personalizzarle un po’, purtroppo chiede di registrarsi anche solo per poterla usare, non so quanto ci si possa fidare ma si può benissimo dargli un nome inventato e una mail temporanea. L’app permette di personalizzare il suono, di generare un profilo equalizzatore personalizzato, e di disattivare il rilevamento in-ear, il bello è che queste impostazioni persistono anche dopo aver disinstallato l’app. Personalmente non sono un fan degli equalizzatori e dei magheggi audio, e queste di default hanno un suono molto pulito e piacevole, quindi ho piallato l’app e relativa mail temporanea, e le ho tenute con le impostazioni di default.

SOUND
Trattandosi di una cuffia wireless relativamente economica, non entro in modalità audiofilo, posso solo dire che si sentono piuttosto bene, in linea con altre cuffiette di questo tipo. Il suono è piuttosto pulito, con un basso presente ma non invadente, alti dettagliati, e medi un po’ arretrati. I medi sono un pochino distanti per i miei gusti e ovviamente hanno il solito sound chiuso tipico degli auricolari ma non possiamo pretendere chissà cosa da delle cuffiette portatili bluetooth. Come livello di dettaglio sono decisamente sopra la media però, così come la pulizia del suono è praticamente perfetta, grazie agli alti enfatizzati si ha quella sensazione di iperdettaglio del suono ma senza che diventi particolarmente affaticante (il suono come dicevo prima è piuttosto bilanciato), ma soprattutto non ci sono frequenze strane in sottofondo come mi è capitato con altre cuffie di questo tipo più economiche. Vanno strabene per generi elettronici ma non fanno neanche schifo per generi più strumentali, diciamo che sono piuttosto versatili, nel peggiore dei casi si può usare un po’ di equalizzatore.

Per quanto riguarda la qualità delle chiamate, nulla da segnalare, si sente bene sia dalla mia parte che dall’altra, anzi mi dicono che si sente non solo bene ma molto bene, la riduzione del rumore è efficace così come l’equalizzazione della voce rispetto ad eventuali altri suoni ambientali.

Infine, cosa da non sottovalutare, queste cuffie supportano la modalità monofonica automatica, quindi se usate solo una cuffia alla volta, il suono cambierà da stereo a mono, quindi sentirete entrambi i canali nella singola cuffia, utile in certe circostanze, come per esempio quando una delle due si scarica prima dell’altra (cosa che può succedere ed è normale).

ERGONOMIA
La comodità delle cuffiette è eccellente, e queste utilizzano la forma tipica ormai usata per tutte le cuffiette semi in-ear ormai ampiamente collaudata da tutti i produttori. Mi ci trovo benissimo personamente, anche perché non sopporto le in-ear che vanno a tappare il canale uditivo.
Almeno per me, stanno ben fisse nell’orecchio, non cadono e non vanno in giro, le uso anche quando faccio palestra, e non ho nessun problema. Inoltre il “gambo” delle cuffie, o come caspita si chiama, è corto quindi ci sono meno possibilità di prenderci dentro.

Per quanto riguarda i controlli, permettono di cambiare traccia, alzare e abbassare il volume, chiamare lo Spione Google (anche noto come “assistente”) e via dicendo. Tutto molto bello però visto che le cuffie sono piuttosto piccole, e che il sensore touch è molto sensibile, quando andrete a toccarle per sistemarle spesso capiterà di cambiare il volume o cambiare traccia, bisogna quindi farci l’abitudine e toccarle in un certo modo evitando di sfiorare il sensore touch. E sì, queste hanno un sensore touch vero, su altre più economiche che ho usato in passato avevano un sensore credo sonoro, che rileva il TAP! sulle cuffie più che il tocco, inutile dire che in quel caso i controlli lasciavano molto a desiderare, grazie al controllo touch vero queste possono rilevare anche le pressioni lunghe (su queste la pressione lunga è usata per cambiare traccia) e i tocchi rapidi con una certa precisione. Le cuffiette hanno anche il sensore per capire quando vengono rimosse dall’orecchio, si tratta di un sensore di prossimità e non di un sensore capacitivo, quindi se per esempio andrete a toglierne una, l’audio si metterà in pausa, però se appoggerete la cuffia a faccia in giù sul tavolo, riprenderà come se venisse reinserita nell’orecchio, cosa da tenere a mente. Questa funzionalità si può disattivare dalla loro app.

Per il resto non sto a dilungarmi tanto, ma come dicevo prima, le cuffie sono davvero piccoline, molto corte rispetto ad altre che ho provato, anche il case di ricarica è più piccolo della media, questo purtroppo implica che le cuffie e il case abbiano un po’ meno durata rispetto ad altri modelli (la durata comunque rispetta quanto dichiarato da SoundPEATS nella pagina del prodotto). Molto comodo il led, che fa capire la quantità di carica residua nel case, cambiando da verde a giallo a rosso. Sempre sul case sono presenti i soliti magneti per tenere chiuso il coperchio (che rimane anche bloccato quando aperto, dettaglio sottovalutato ma importante per evitare che il coperchio si chiuda mentre si maneggia la base per esempio quando si fa il pairing) e per tenere fisse le cuffiette quando le inserite per la carica.

CONCLUSIONI
Sicuramente se state leggendo questo papiro di recensione, siete dubbiosi sullo spendere 50 euro per queste anziché i soliti 30 che costano in media gli altri modelli. Le differenze alla fine non sono poche, ma quelle più importanti sono la qualità della base di ricarica (con il led che indica lo stato di carica, e la chiusura e apertura con blocco magnetico), i controlli touch veri con tanto di volume e cambio traccia, e la modalità a bassa latenza che è fantastica per giocare sul PC. Il codec APTx Adaptive sulla carta sembra una figata ma fa ben poca differenza (e funziona solo sui cellulari Qualcomm), così come il rilevamento in-ear. A completare il pacchetto, abbiamo anche una qualità audio decisamente accettabile e pulita. Per superare queste credo si debba andare sulle Airpods che costano il triplo, e onestamente non credo ne valga la pena, e credo che siamo tutti d’accordo sul fatto che dare soldi ad Apple sia sbagliato a prescindere.
Unico difetto è la sensibilità del touch, che spesso causa operazioni involontarie quando si sistemano le cuffie, ma su questo c’è poco da fare mi sa.
Non posso quindi che consigliarle senza riserve e dargli 4.7 stelline arrotondato a 5.

They sound good. They look good. They fit well. The controls are intuitive and responsive. They do what they’re meant to, and are a decent price.

One of the best features is how well you can be heard over background noise (traffic/wind) when on a phone call. This is why I got them, and they seem to work very well for this.

But if you’re reading reviews, you’re looking for the things that fall short, to see if you can put up with the limitations/caveats. This is what has bugged me so far, which I imagine could be a deal breaker for some:

1. The way they go back in the box. My previous Soundpeats headphones went from my ear to the case without rotation. A simple move from ear to box or vice versa. These have to be rotated 180 degrees, so it’s more awkward, easier to drop them. It sounds like a small irritation, but it just feels like a poor design that they don’t sit in the box the same direction as in your ears, since there would be room to do so. I’ve dropped them a number of times while putting them away, where I’d rarely drop my previous earbuds (TrueDot, Sonic, Air2).

2. Case light colour (charge indicator) – in theory it goes from green to yellow to red as the charge drops. But the yellow is nearly indistinguishable from the green. For a while I didn’t even think it was different, but now I can see it if the lighting condition is right. And the red only shows up when they’re almost empty. I’ve not actually seen them go red, apart from when charging from fully flat. Given there’s only 2 “recharges” in the case, it’s frustrating that it’s so hard to know whether you have enough power in the case to charge the headphones or not. It would be better to have a clearer colour change at 50%, or multiple lights to show whether it needs a recharge.

3. Case battery life – along with the poor charge indicator, having only 2 recharges in the case is a big step down from the Air2 which had 4 charges, or the Sonic which just seems to last forever, or even the old and very cheap TrueDot that managed about 3. It’d be less of a problem if the indicator was clearer, but it’s so easy to run out of battery without realising it.

4. Battery life reported on my phone (via Bluetooth) – it always says 90% or 100%, even after hours of listening. I’ve yet to see it drop lower, except when they went flat. Perhaps it did drop in the last half hour or so, but that’s not really helpful to indicate how long they’re going to last! So on top of being a bit unaware of how much charge is in the limited case, it’s easy to lose track of how much is in the earbuds too. All in all, I’m getting surprised when I run out of battery, which was very rare with my other earbuds.

Los compré porque los Airpods normales no son a prueba de humedad y los requiero para hacer ejercicio, por lo que sudo mucho. Me sorprendió que tienen una mejor calidad de sonido que los de Apple, igual de nítido pero con más potencia, y a sólo un tercio de su precio.

Su calidad de construcción es buena, no se oye que hayan piezas flojas que resuenen con el movimiento como sí me pasó hace tiempo con unos de Huawei. Y si bien el plástico tanto de los audífonos como del estuche de carga es más liviano que el de los Airpods, no se siente de mala calidad, aunado a que su acabado mate resiste mejor los rayones y las huellas dactilares.

Como consideraciones finales, el auricular en sí es más grande que el de Apple, para que lo consideren quienes tienen oidos muy pequeños. Respecto al emparejamiento, es muy sencillo y funcionan bien tanto en dispositivos Android (un Xiaomi) como iOS (un iPad).

Por su calidad y su precio los recomiendo sin duda alguna sobre marcas más caras.

I LOVE this product. I bought these earbuds last year when I started going to the gym and pretty much use them every single day. Mainly, I needed earbuds for running, and wired earphone weren’t really practical. So glad I got this. They look like airpods, and connect instantly to my phone. The battery life is really good and I can get a couple of days out of them before I need to recharge. In terms of noise cancelling, they aren’t the best, however, I don’t use them for that purpose so it doesn’t bother me as such. Good product and would recommend if you are looking for high quality and good value for money wireless earbuds.

They don’t deserve 5 stars because they have connectivity issues that the R&D team really need to look at fixing. But for the price the sound is good!

I updated myAir3 to the latest firmware before using, hoping it fix the bluetooth pairing issue, but pairing and connectivity is still an issue. Oftentimes I have to reset the Air3 and try to connect again, (see point 2 below about firmware updating issues).

On the positive side, the Soundpeats Air3 look nice, deliver solid sound and are quite comfortable. They definitely do not compete with my Sony Linkbuds S. The Linkbuds have better build quality, longer life, looks, more comfort and always connect to the phone, (but the Linkbuds are 3 times the price).

I found the tap control on the Soundpeats Air3 a bit tricky at first but now it’s all good and I can control functions easily (e.g. pause song, hang up, volume up/down). The Air3 work brilliantly with my Samsung Frame smart TV, I can watch movies when everyone else is asleep in the house! Lip sync from screen to the earbuds is very good, no obvious delay.

Finally, here are two super annoying glitches in the Air3 that I think really lets this product down:

1. When I first got these, I found the pairing to the iPhone 12 sometimes worked and sometimes didn’t. Simply put, the Air3 to iPhone connection isn not seamless at all. I’ve noticed a lot of people posting about having the same problem. As mentioned earlier higher quality earbuds like the Sony Linkbuds S connect to my phone seamlessly every single time. Sometimes one earbud will lose connection and I have to reset them and try to connect again.

2. Updating the firmware via the app was also troublesome to the point that I had almost given up. When I first installed the app it prompted me to update the Air3 to 0.4.3 firmware but it would stop at 90% and hang without any further progress. I reset the earbuds, restarted the app and jumped through every possible hoop to get it to download – eventually the firmware update got to 100% on like the 10th attempt. Even though the app still to this day prompts me to update 0.4.3 firmware, I can now connect seamlessly to my iPhone. So the update must have worked.

The Air3 has super annoying glitches, but they are also very inexpensive. If you aren’t technically minded, do not buy these as you will have to often jump through hoops to get them to connect. When it comes to sound quality, they are darn good value. I like them but would never buy another pair of SoundPEATS – too much trouble.
