They won’t Bluetooth connect to my laptop. They come with a cable which I can use to but I got these to study with so It’s frustrating not being able to walk away quickly while still listening (especially as I have ADHD and get restless so like to stretch every 10 minutes or so). My laptop doesn’t support the app and they can’t connect without it. Considering the price I paid, and the fact that I use them with my laptop over my phone the majority of the time, it was nearly enough for me to send them back but I love every other aspect of them (super comfy, great sound quality, and excellent noise canceling features), so I’ve decided to keep them. They are definitely better suited for use with my phone, as I don’t get access to all the features without the app. If you want to use these with a laptop, I’d recommend seeing if you can download the app before purchase.

Best purchase I’ve made in years. The sound and noise cancellation is excellent, as expected. It sounds pretty “flat” to my ears, as far as frequency response goes. Definitely not for the Beats users. With the Sony you never get that weird vacuum suction feeling when the noise cancellation happens, which I get on my now ancient but still very functional Bose QC15. Remains to be seen how this unit will be in 8 years, if the battery lasts. The Bose just needs 1 AAA battery which is easily available. I haven’t tested it without charging at end of day. Battery life indicator, even via app, would have been nice.
The conveniences like stopping the music when you take it off, ambient sound when you put your hand on the right earpiece, playback control are all great. I’ve had a few cases where it goes to the next song when I was swiping up to increase the volume, but that might be my unfamiliarity with having a touch pad on the earpiece.
Highly recommend turning off the ambient sound control, which turns down the music when you start to speak. In theory it’s great, but it is way too sensitive, and non-speech noises (steps on a staircase!) have triggered it as well. Now this might have already been fixed in a software upgrade, but I haven’t done this yet. Will update this post if it’s been fixed.
UPDATE: The worst feature is “speak to chat”, which stops whatever is playing once you start talking. There is a control on the app to disable this, HOWEVER it will always re-enable when you connect to a computer, no matter what setting you have. Be ready to use two fingers on the right ear up to disable this. XM5 is already out and it still has the same problem. I suspect someone high up in Sony believes this a feature, not a bug, and hierarchies are obeyed over there. Its not a deal-breaker, honestly, but annoying AF and yet another case of good hardware companies being terrible software companies.

Fantastic noise cancellation and comfort, sound quality depends on ears and experience. To my ears out of the box is ok, can be tweaked using custom modes of the app. The sound is probably not quite as good as my Grado Open backs, but noise cancellation ability outweighs the difference

When I heard reviews about this headset I knew I wanted, but the biggest selling point what’s the anc at the back of my mind however I thought It was going to be a gimmick and not as useful as how it was described My room is pretty close to the living room which is the place where most noise will be emitted, sounds such as, noise from television, talking, walking, water hitting the sink etc. I wake up pretty late and most the time I get woken up prematurely due to the noise mentioned above Before using the headphones I was doubting whether it could actually cancel those noise or not and to further provoke that doub I read up reviews saying it’s very circumstancial in terms of how anc can be effective like it can only cancel low frequencies. When I used it I was pleasantly surprised and all doubts were gone. Family was having lunch while watching tv, and I couldn’t here anything Majority of the television audio was cancelled only the higher frequencies remained other than that pretty much 95 percent of it was cancelled Noise such as clacking from plates remained but overall majority was cancelled only Even as I’m writing this up I’m toggling noise cancellation on and off to compare the difference and suffice to say the differences is night and day I’m not a big fan of turning music up very high in fact I usually keep it at a modest setting of like 2/5 of the volume bar which is pretty low but I like it like that I get a little stress when it’s louder. That being said most the time I do turn it louder to block out the ambience but. With this headset I get the opportunity to listen to my prefered settings pretty much any in all circumstances at least that’s what I assume since I haven’t even owned these for More than a day The anc is so good I see myself just wearing these as ear mufflers
