We mounted this camera with the solar panel over our garage since the Ring doorbell does not capture this location. The picture is clear both day and night. The light comes on with movement at night. The audio is crisp. We were able to have a conversation using it. The solar panel has kept the battery level at 99-100% charged since it was installed. It was easy to install and integrates well with the other ring devices. We love this camera.

Aiming it is difficult. It took us 3 days and many trips up the ladder to get it aimed correctly to notify us of movement. The light is NOT bright – at all. There is NO way to adjust the amount of time the light stays on. It’s only for around 10 seconds. I’m not impressed at all. Don’t waste your money.

Overall I really like the spotlight cam solar. It’s fairly easy to get setup and has a lot of useful features. I pair it with my Ring Doorbell with solar to cover the front and back of my house. The batteries are easy to change and I always have a couple extra fully charged for swapping. My only complaints would be that 1. Sometimes the camera sensitivity isn’t consistent and 2. the solar model only works within a certain temperature range. It’s not mentioned anywhere obvious when purchasing that I could find. Only after I purchased it and used it did I realize it. I live in MN and when the temps got below freezing the solar panel stopped working even on bright and sunny days. I dug around Rings support website and found a section that says the solar panel only works within a certain range to protect the battery. “To protect the lithium-ion battery in device, and for your safety, Ring Quick Release Battery Packs only allow solar to charge in the temperature range 32°F~ 113°F (0°C~45°C).“ That would have been nice to know when buying it. I still like having the solar panel for when it does work (which is 9 months of the year) but wish it worked better when it gets below freezing. I’m still very happy with the camera and solar panel and have no regrets, but I hope they improve the performance of the solar panel/battery to allow charging in a wider range.
UPDATE: after making through the winter I’ve updated my review above. There was about 3 months where I had to switch out the batteries a couple times a month. Not a big deal really. Now that it’s warmed above freezing for awhile, I haven’t had to change the batteries at all for a couple months. So overall I’m very pleased with the solar panels. If they improve the cold weather charging they would be 5 of 5 stars easily.

We wanted a camera that had a light feature so that we could see better details like faces and license plates. Unfortunately we cannot read license plates even with the lights on. The picture is with the light off. There is a light on the garage so some backlight for us. Pretty good resolution but the light feature did not do much for us
The camera was breeze to pair to the phone and easy to install, two screws for the backplate attach to the house and the cover slides down and you can lock it into position with the set screw.
There is a ring collar that captures the ball on the back of the camera. The ring collar needs to be FULLY loosened to accept the ball/camera. Once the ball is in the socket, tighten the screw to secure the camera. The Pro is much heavier than the Spotlight camera too so make sure all the screws are tight.
The solar panel is great and easy to install. There is 12’ of cable so getting a spot with sun is pretty easy.

I do love them in the summer when their sunshine and warm but come winter they’re totally useless they’re constantly dead you’ve got to try to mount them where you can reach them and get the batteries out even if you have a backup battery they’re always dead there’s just not enough sunshine and it’s too chilly for them. Not sure what good they are
