Ok so I got this unit for multiple uses. At the moment it is the heart of a proofing box. In NSW we are copping an early winter blast and that is no good for proofing your dough. I got an esky and modded the lid to fit the inkbird cable through (10mm speedbore) The inkbird mat goes inside on the bottom and a coated cooling tray sits above that. The controller is outside obviously and the dough sits in containers on the rack. Worked great with 24hr cuputo pizzeria napoletana dough. Bulk fermented then cold fermented in fridge, then back in the proofer, – Fantastic. Will be great for seedlings too 🙂 But for proofing , just excellent!!!

I have only just started to use this heating mat, to germinate seeds for early planting of seedings. So I can’t comment with experience on its longevity. However, it seems robust enough, and keeps its set temperature well, confirmed by using a separate thermometer. Seedlings sprout through the seed raising mixture quickly (2 days for lettuce, spinach 3 days, silverbeet 4 days, tomatoes 5 days, & capsicum giant bell in 8 days). This is quicker than without heating. Another advantage is the more uniform sprouting and growth of the seedlings. Once the seedlings are established, it’s good to harden them a little by putting them outside on sheltered small trays covered with plastic to keep them warmer in the sunshine. Bringing them in again at night time to avoid any frost is worthwhile.

I used my govee wifi temperature recorder to assess this product. Based on govees sensors, I had to set the temperature target to 30 degrees C to achieve a temperature that ranged between 21 and 24 on most days. For context, my ambient temperature ranged from 16 to 21c.
For seed raising, a colder night time temp is a positive so I am not too fussed. I would recommend getting a thermometer to stick in the growing medium so that you can calibrate the target temperature. Once you do that this product is great. My last heat mat didn’t have a thermostat and that sucked, I just cooked my seedlings – this is much better.

Works great for germinating my seeds. Wish it would start with the heating ON when it receives power and a memory for the set temperature so that it could be put on a timer. Temperatures are a little off but a couple of degrees either way isn’t going to make that big of a difference.
Would buy again
