So I am going through phone holder phases. First I tried a magnet charger, but it wasn’t that easy to line up and although it may not have fallen it would loose position and not charge my phone. It also wasn’t a fast charger. So next I bought a similar product but it was cheap and noisy so I bought this device. The device is quiet and charges my phone. I would say my biggest problem is with the vent clamp. It doesn’t hold and has even fallen off. Oh and after it fell the phone clamps were not in the correct position and it was annoying to get my Phone in/out. I was frustrated so I performed minor surgery on the device and it was a success. I was able to adjust the clamps and after that I realized I still had my old device which had a very good vent clamp so I switched it out and so far so good. This device also comes with a suction cup, but I haven’t tried it yet because…. don’t get me started with suction mounts. Anyway this phone holder is just ok after changing the vent clip.

I’ve tried multiple car phone mounts over the years, with and without wireless charging and automatic gripping. My first mount that gripped automatically had a button I had to press the phone against to activate. It worked okay, but was inconsistent with charging and finicky. It only lasted about 5 months before I had to get a new one. The next one used a light sensor to close the arms. That was the worst design. The sensor would activate falsely quite often when not in use, then it stopped charging half the time, so I would have to plug in my phone directly. The mount had some battery power to let me use it unplugged a couple times, but after that I’d have to switch the cord back from my phone to the mount again to get it to open. Then the retraction stopped working, and I had to close it by force. Overall it only lasted 6 months before I was ready to buy a new one, which is how I found this mount by CHGeek.
I needed a mount that wouldn’t break down in six months, would activate reliably, and charges consistently.
After the issues with the previous mount’s light sensor, I was concerned that this CHGeek mount would have similar troubles, especially since I wasn’t clear on how it activates. However, it seemed to be the best option, so I crossed my fingers and tried it out.
I’ve now had this charging mount for over a year and a half, and it’s still going strong. It’s easily my favorite mount, because it is super simple to use, and works reliably. The way it activates is geniusly simple – when the phone is set inside, the arms close as soon as the wireless charging kicks in, which is immediate. It charges quickly, and if someone else is driving who has a phone without wireless charging, the mount still works perfectly fine just by pressing the side button. The closing mechanism hasn’t worn out, and the mount itself is sleek. It holds onto the dashboard quite well also. Although it can loosen occasionally, it’s a quick fix. The rotating/tilting mechanism holds securely.
The only negative thing I can really say about it is that the black finish on mine soon turned to a bronzy color on the metallic portions under UV exposure. Unexpected, but I don’t think it looks bad.
I often do deliveries and may use a company vehicle, or if that’s not available, get reimbursed for using my vehicle. When I use my vehicle, I have no hassle getting in and out of my car with my phone and always have a full battery despite constantly using my phone for dispatching and GPS.

This little charger does exactly as advertised. The most impressive feature is the suction cup mount. I expected to replace the suction cup as I normally do on these windshield mounts. I hate vent mounts as they normally break the vents which weren’t designed hi have phones hanging from them.
This suction mount is very sticky, very pliable and appears to be made to last.
The charger is good. Not quite as fast as my Apple branded wireless charger. But then again, I’m not running SXM and nav on the phone when charging at home. Still charges my phone fully in about 90 minutes with those power hungry apps running.
The auto clamping feature is pretty cool and works every time.
Finally, the phone (iPhone 12 Pro Max) starts where I set it. The mount is flexible enough to handle rough roads but will still keep the phone where I set it.

I’ve purchased other auto-clamping car chargers and they’ve all failed me. They usually start working OK but something goes wrong. This one is different. Pros: 1. Well built and sturdy – Components appear to be drop resistant and do not appear to be effected by severe heat. 2. Adjustable lower retainer – It can be moved to accommodate different size phones 3. Deep clamps – Fits phones in otter-box type thicker cases. 4. Great mounts – Vent clip is sturdy and wide and does not get damaged when car swerves suddenly. Dashboard mount is awesome. 5. Great Actuation – The unit can open and close without always being powered. 6. Fast Charging – It actually works reliably with any fast charger unlike other auto clamping chargers.
Cons: 1. No handsfree release – You need to press a button to release phone. Other units use hand gestures. The lack of handsfree release can actually be an advantage as a few other similar chargers tend to continuously open and close with car vibration.
Been using it for almost a month and an quite happy so far.
